Server hardware Upgrade

Post by cwchin18 » Thu Mar 11, 2010 4:50 pm

I am upgrading my OpenDental server.... form 6.6.26.0 on XP on old server to Windows 7 on new server.

Can someone provide steps I need to take so I can get in up and running.

I am on support contract and was told by Tech support to use the existing setup.exe if I want to maintain the same version 6.6.26.0. OpenDental installed but there is no mySQL to connect to. So I downloaded the trial version 6.9 and installed the whole stack on the new WIN 7 server. The demo program seems to run fine, Now I am wondering how do port my data over. Is this the right approach ?

What are the steps I should take to finish, can some suggest the steps, or folder I need to copy over. I have both USB external drive and thumb drive
available. I take it I need to copy my A-Z folders and the mySQL folder. Does anyone have the specifics so I can be sure exactly what to do?

If both machines are connected to the internet, and are on the same lan, then we can do it for you to make sure nothing goes wrong. Think of it as restoring a backup (something you are already intimately familiar with, right?). Don't move your old data. Just copy it to the new location. The backup restore process is listed here:

Maybe go down to the bottom, under Manual Backup/Restore.
You're definitely ont he right track. Once you get it running on your new server, be sure to unblock port 3306 on the new server. Then, disable MySQL on the old server and change the name of the AtoZ folder so you don't accidentally use it either.
