Open Dental 7.2 now has 5 minute increments... Awesome!
I flipped it on, and noticed a couple of things:
1. Procedure time patterns all use 5-minute blocks now. Fantastic! That's what I wanted. But - now the combined-procedures-padding is 5 minutes, which I don't want. Would it be reasonable to request a separate preference somewhere called combined-procedure-padding that would allow us to have, for example, 5 minute granularity, but 10 minute head/tail padding?
2. Once it's set to 5 minutes, we can't see the whole day in the appointment module. I noticed "appointment view edit" has a "rows per time" setting. What I'm asking for would be sort-of like if that setting could take a "0.5" value.
Thanks,
5 minute increments

Re: 5 minute increments
I dont know what the padding means but i think yes .5 increments on the rows are a necessity to use this feature well.
Re: 5 minute increments
Sandi,
Thanks for agreeing.
About the padding, I'm referring to how Open Dental calculates an appointment time pattern when combining multiple procedures (for example, 2 fillings, or an FMX and a CompPerioEval).
OD team, please correct me if I'm misrepresenting this, but basically it works like this:
1. It scrapes off the first and last time blocks of each procedure on the appointment (considered padding) - the length of these depends on your appointment view setting
2. It smacks them all together
3. All the doctor time gets combined to the beginning
4. One set of padding is added back to the beginning and end - the length of these depends on your appointment view setting
So this is what I mean by "padding" depending on the appointment view selected. It would be nice if they could be set independently.
Best,

Re: 5 minute increments
So via experimentation and rethinking, I've been able to work around question 1 by myself. I'm still wondering about question 2 below, though. Is this a possibility? I really would like 5 minute granularity, but I'd also like to see the whole day's schedule in one screen...
Thanks again!alkhaef wrote: 2. Once it's set to 5 minutes, we can't see the whole day in the appointment module. I noticed "appointment view edit" has a "rows per time" setting. What I'm asking for would be sort-of like if that setting could take a "0.5" value.

Re: 5 minute increments
Yes, I understand the issue, but it's going to take a bit of work on our end to do something like that. Certainly not as simply as allowing .5 in that box.
