Windows 7 Pro Compatibility

Post by HOCKEYDOC » Sun May 20, 2012 4:12 pm

We are looking into setting up a 5 computer network running Open Dental. My IT guys wants to run WIndows 7 pro on all machines including the server.

We are also looking into running a tablet or two in the Operatories. I've seen the reccs for the Itronixs on here and know to stay away from IPADS, Android etc.

What do people think about setting the whole system up with WIndows 7 Pro and possibly buying a WIndows 8 tablet in the fall? Will I run into compatibility issues? I've read that some tablets run skimpy versions of Windows 7.

So should we hold out for the WIndows 8 based tablets or grab something running WIndows 7?

Would a windows 8 tablet have issues with OD or WIndows 7?

This page should answer the technical side of things but the gist of it is that as long as you have less than 20 computers, you should be fine.

Thanks,

I've gone through that page but my question is more regarding Tablets running Windows. I know that a tablet running windows 7 will work but I was more wondering if a tablet running windows 8 will work on a network running windows 7 pro. More importantly, how will Open Dental work with Windows 8? Will it take time to get up to speed?

That is kinda hard to answer at this point since windows 8 hasn't been released yet. All we've had so far is beta previews that don't necessarily reflect the final product. Mostly what I've seen of windows 8 so far has not left me worried about compatibility, but only time will tell.
