Electonic signature

Post by prokusek » Thu Oct 31, 2013 8:08 am

I am setting up all of our new patient forms as webforms and am wondering if we can do consent forms (Hipaa, financial policy, etc.) where the patient types their signature in the webform. Will this type of signature hold up legally?
Thanks!

Typing a signature into a form may not hold up legally, as there is no way to prove who 'signed' the document. Using a signature pad is legally binding.
Our page: http://opendental.com/manual/digitalsignatures.html addresses the issues you raise about digital signatures and their legality.
