Possible Security Issue

Post by drmaximus » Tue Jan 28, 2014 1:11 pm

Is there anyway I can protect my network from someone plugging into the router/switch or Ethernet jack and going to the shared A-Z folder and downloading all the info?? We keep insurance card info in there and want to protect that. How could I do that?

There are a lot of variables based on how your network is setup. If it's a network share that's on a domain you should be able to limit access to the folder to only users on your domain. If it's a basic Windows share you'll have to set other safeguards. One of the most secure ways to lock down your network is to limit access to specific hardware addresses (MAC ID) and that is set in your router. It just takes a lot of work to get it set right.
