Windows 7 chart

We are upgrading computers from windows XP to windows 7. We have noticed now that the chart "refreshes" everytime you try to put anything in it. This is slowing down the charting of new patients. Is there a simple fix?

My guess is graphic settings. You can try this:

(File/Graphics)
Check the button that says use OpenGL.

Check the "Hardware Acceleration" box, the Use "Double-Buffering" box and then the "Show All Formats" box.

Select option 4 and then say OK.

Now test for stability and speed. If this doesn't work then give support a call and they will figure it out for you.

What @bpcompt suggests might just work but here's another scenario.

Windows 7 might be installing the latest driver for your graphics card and that may not be the best one for your purposes. We once had a similar situation and what worked in the end was a rollback using older drivers from the Intel website instead of the latest ones that Windows 7 automatically installed. I have no idea what your card is so you need to dig around and see if you can find drivers other than the one Windows is providing. Maybe a CD from the manufacturer of the card/PC or the manufacturers website. For this reason we are very careful when updating Windows not to update graphics drivers on workstations. I know it's crazy but I am telling you what worked for us.

Incidentally the reverse also happened once and installing the latest drivers on a computer solved many problems but in my experience rolling back has always helped us in one specific instance: when OD acts up in the manner you describe on a PC with onboard graphics manufactured by Intel.

The alternative is to use Direct X Graphics but that comes with its own set of headaches which in some ways are worse.

Jason, correct me if I am wrong but isn't this is a workaround if nothing else works. Why give up on a feature when a potential fix exists.

This will probably fix your problem. I have found it is usually a direct x issue that still occurs on windows 7 and windows 8. If you download this file and run it, then restart windows/the computer, it solves the problem every time.

For typical users, I'd have to agree with you that this is a workaround.
However, in the rare case that this user is using the Middle Tier, if they have a slow internet connection updating the graphic drivers might not solve any problems. The root of the issue might be related to how much the database is being called. To the user it might seem like the graphical tooth chart is being slow when in fact it is waiting on the processor to free up resources that are being locked up waiting on replies from the server via the web.
