I am on version 17.2.23 and they are still opening in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, which is what I prefer. Will it remain that way? Is it an option I can control?PDF images in Open Dental open in Internet Explorer (IE)
Many practices have experienced issues with Adobe settings affecting their ability to see images. Versions 17.1.27 and greater will default to using Internet Explorer to open PDF images. If you’re having trouble viewing pdf’s in the image module, consider an update!

Without the quote context I can't give you a detailed response but I can offer a generic response. Open Dental plans to always support previewing PDFs within the Images module. When this functionality doesn't work it has always been Adobe's fault whether by installation problem, version issue, or some sort of strange setting (security settings were the strangest I've seen fix issues). There is no such option within Open Dental (and will likely never be one because you can just double click on the PDF to get it to open outside of Open Dental if desired) and if there is such an option within Adobe, we have yet to find it. If anyone ends up finding it, let us know because we'd love to update our manual. So far people have found some fixes here and there that work for their specific scenarios so I doubt the day will ever come where such a setting is found that fixes this issue for all.
The best thing about a boolean is even if you are wrong, you are only off by a bit.

This quote is from our company newsletter (http://us12.campaign-archive.com/?e=%5B ... 4c72e017d3). The newsletter is not quite clear on what's going on. The change that we made in 17.2 was to embed an Internet Explorer browser inside of the Images module to open the pdf. Most people have an add-on enabled in Internet Explorer that opens pdfs in Adobe Reader, so this is why your pdfs are still opening in Adobe Reader. If in the future you decide that you do want a different pdf reader, you can go into Internet Explorer settings and change the default pdf reader.

Re: PDF images in Open Dental open in Internet Explorer (IE)
So.. I am testing 17.3.34.0.. does this use IE to open PDF Files? I don't appear to have a pdf addon in IE.. I checked the 32 bit IE as well... But I seem to be opening a pdf with Adobe Acrobat DC just fine on this test machine, with the OpenDentImages folder residing on a network share, that is not my test machine.
Odd... I know I have seen the problem with DC before...
Nevermind!!!! I figured it out.
Good work fellas!
