Setting up Diseases

Post by Pruce Dental » Tue Aug 17, 2010 10:40 pm

Jordan...

When I begin setting up diseases in Open Dental should the diseases be written in terms for me or for patients to understand? i.e. should I be using terms like" hypertension" or "MI" or lay terms like "high blood pressure" and "heart attack"?

It would make sense to list them the in doctor terms but I was wondering if with future upgrades someday when you start importing the data from a medical history will it use these same diseases as the fields or will it be set up independently of these disease fields? If someday the medical history sheets and imported data uses the same disease fields it might make sense to use patient friendly terms. Any thoughts?

Good point. The good news is you can always change them. Importing from medical history sheets will probably use your chosen wording as the internal name of a checkbox, but the label that goes next to the checkbox will be a different object and need not have the same text in it. At least that's how I currently envision it.
