Hi,
Please excuse me if any of the questions are already answered, I did do a lot of google://whatever+site:opendental.com (and later realised there is also opendentalsoft.com).
I am in the process of getting OpenDental set up for a UK (non-NHS, fully private) dentistry. We are also going to use your support as well but I figured these may be questions that others could be interested in (especially from the UK).
1) When setting up practice info, the UK phone number is not accepted. If I try to start with parentheses, it automatically closes it after 3 digits. If I just simply enter the phone number, it keeps telling me "invalid phone number".
I think it would be safe to just remove the check completely. But at the very least, make it accept UK numbers, please. Example #: 0151 123 4567
2) I looked in the manual, went through all the Setup menus, googled currency and GBP on both opendental.com and opendentalsoft.com but the only response I found was that currency should be changed from Windows regional settings.
Well, the regional settings show the pound sign in use, everything else is set to be according to UK standards but OpenDental (latest public trial version, 7.9.20.0) still shows $ everywhere. Obviously we need to use GBP instead of USD to actually use it (and it's kind of urgent), so how do we do that?
3) Setup->Operatories: how do you delete something from the list? Maybe it's obvious but I couldn't find a delete button anywhere.
4) When configuring users, you cannot link a user to an employee and a provider at the same time. You have to select either. Could you please explain this? It is not that important obviously we'll mostly just assign doctors/etc to providers and receptionists to employee records. But from a logical / db point of view, I don't see the reason why not and I'm probably wrong here so your explanation would help me see what I don't understand about this.

Re: Going OpenDental in the UK
1. I just tested, and it worked fine for me. Maybe your computer is not set to en-UK in the Windows Control Panel?
2. Again, this is a Windows setting. In the Region and Language window, Formats tab, the Format dropdown at the top should be set to English (United Kingdom). I'm not sure why this isn't sticking for you. Maybe try restarting your computer? It works for me when I set my computer to English (UK).
3. You hide them instead of deleting them. You will find this is common for many setup types. Double click to edit, then hide.

1) and 2) were only issues in the trial version. After updating to the full version those problems ceased to exist.
3) thanks for the information, I've got the pattern now.

Really? That's very confusing to me. The trial version shouldn't behave any differently than the full version in those areas. Well, at least I'm glad it's working for you now. We will do some testing with the trial version and region settings.

Re: Going OpenDental in the UK
The point might not be the trial version per say, but the version itself.
I'm just saying that when I had the problem, I was using the trial version available on the site (which is 7.x) and after the upgrade it became 11.x.
I'm 100% sure that even with proper regional settings the 7.x trial version still shows the dollar sign, and the phone number wasn't accepted in the setup.
Another possibility: I kind-of remember seeing an "-international" suffix somewhere in the (full) version description or the installer's filename. Maybe that has something to do with the difference as well.
IMHO you shouldn't spend much time debugging this, just put out the trial of a fresher version.
