Topaz Signature Pads
We are also looking for a signature pad. Is Topaz the only supported pad? Is there a pad that also integrates a card swipe? Does OpenDental support card swipes and, if so, is there a suggested card swipe?
Thank you!

Follow the link to the x-charge website, and from there to the recommended hardware page.

As for signature pads, yes Topaz is the only one supported. We had to make a major decision on the hardware when we started supporting signatures a year or two ago. Topaz is the only one that had a decent accessible interface for us. They offer lots and lots of reasonable choices at a good price.

Well, then you'd sort of be talking about a tablet PC. The only reason we have for possibly making the signature pad bigger is to display text to the user who is signing.

Actually, I've was thinking of these "Digital Pen's" I've seen ads for.
They copy an image of whatever you've written with their "Pens" on standard paper to your computer.
So you don't need any special training.
My thoughts would be to activate the link to the pen when the signiture window opens... then just scribble away!
I know, it sounds too easy, but ya never know!
I don't know if they're twain or whatever..
but they are a lot less expensive than a tablet. (roughly $50 to 200.00 dollars.)
I can look for my old bookmarks and post a link.
Again I don't know the technicals but seems like a good idea legally and for providers that write faster than they type.

trouble shutting down
Open Dental has trouble shutting down on the computers where I have Sig Pads. It deosn't casue any major problem just gives me a shutdown error and asks if I would like to send a report. It is more of a nuisance than anything else.
Has anyone else had this trouble and/or is there a fix?
Thanks,
DW

Re: Topaz/Signature Pad
Good Afternoon,
I am revisiting this visa payment project and looked at the X-Charge PDF you sent a link to at the beginning of this thread. One of the products listed for the card swipe included the signature pad. Will this work with open dental? I assume that their pad worked with their software and was simply linked to open dental via some kind of bridge. If it does work would there be any limitations to the pad (for instance it only works with their software, but wouldn't work harmoniously with open dental). Just trying to find an all-in-one product if I can.
Thanks,
David

Re: Topaz/Signature Pad
That signature pad won't work with OD. Card swipes are all the same, though and are very common. You can get them built into keyboards or monitors. They are small and cheap. So if you found a Topaz pad that had a card swiper in it, the swiper would surely work with Xcharge.

Re: Topaz/Signature Pad
Does anyone know if you can have multiple sig pads connected to one PC for signature capture. We have a situation that would make signing TP's much easier if you could. We have essentially 3 places in which we would like to be able to capture signatures.
1. Patients seen on Dr. side and checks out on the side of office.
2. Patients seen on Hygiene side and check out on that side.
3. Patients checking in at front desk for informed consents, etc.
We have designated check-in spot, however our office has 2 distinct sides for check out. So if we have a hygiene patient that needs to sign a treatment plan, we don't want to have them goto the other side just to be able to sign the sig pad.
Anybody have any success with 2 sig pads on one PC?
Thanks,
