Version numbering
We're considering a new numbering scheme. We have so many version releases that it's too confusing. For example, 6.8, 7.8, 7.7, 6.9, 7.9, etc all get muddled and blurred together when I think about them. The year is now 2011, so I propose moving to 11.0, 11.1, 11.2, 12.0, 12.1, etc. The major release would indicate the year. The minor release would be incremental. The major version numbers are distinct and not shared with minor version numbers. It also gives us a general feel for how old a version is.

Re: Version numbering
That's a great idea. Ubuntu has used something similar and it's been very handy.

Re: Version numbering
Well, we decided against minor versions for month because that might include 10-12. Also, we might release more than one version in a month. Finally, we don't like skipping versions.
