Write Offs

Post by savvy » Sat Jan 10, 2009 1:54 pm

Last year's Production and Income Report lists multiple tens of thousand dollars in write offs.
How can I determine how much of that is Delta Dental related or other?

Use the PPO writeoff report.

With regards to Write Offs..

We like the 3 column layout of the ledger as it is.

Eventhough all the information is there in the Claim Detail, we find that combining write offs with insurance payments as one number in the "credit" column to be..
1- a bit confusing, because we usually think of the credit column as a payment, not a credit+write off.
2- it's harder to quickly determine how much the insurance company has paid for any period of time.
Isn't it's easier to see and add payments if they're in the same column, rather than to dissect it out of several lines of text in the claim detail area?

It can also be troublesome when trying to reconcile those long treatment ledgers when it's necessary to match payments to claims.

Does anyone else find this to be true?

Would you consider having 'write offs' as a separate line entry immediately under the associated claim
(not the payment, which is usually when the write off is discovered and entered).
Oh, and a different color to distinguish it from payments would be nice too!

It would be easier to understand which write off goes with which claim.
and easier to quickly confirm visually, that all the write offs were actually made.

Thanks!

yes, we have had this same complaint. It would be clearer to have the write off just below the actual payment in a separate line I think.

So can you turn that into a request? I think it would be:
Show writeoffs as a separate line entry under the claim.
With a detailed explanation like:
Instead of combining writeoff with payment on the procedure line.

I like the way this forum works.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just one last thought that might make the 'ledger' a bit easier to use.

This pertains to differenciating treatment lines that have been submitted to insurance from those that have not.

Yup, I know that claims are easy enough to associate with most treatment entries,
except if someone forgot to send a claim in on the date of tx
and then only notices one.. two or more tx dates later...
('Stuff' happens when your busy).

So what happens is
the new claim is combined with the older tx which may be several lines above it
separated by one or more claims and tx between it.

... it becomes difficult to know what's been sent out and what hasn't.

The 'Cure' would be to have 'unsent' treatment line as BOLD BLACK text.
Once the treatment is part of a claim it then turns to regular "non bold text".

Then it's easy, quick and obvious to see any tx has not been sent for paymnt.
Less room for human error.

If it doesn't take too much programing time I think it might be worth it.
Anyone else?

(only consideration is how it appears on patients with no insurance).

There's already a request to make unsent more visible. I have added a comment about possibly making the entire row bold.
