Just upgraded to 5.0.9 yesterday. We haven't changed anything with our graphics setup. This computer has an integrated Radeon XPress 200 chip, which is more than powerful enough for this purpose.

Strangely, software rendering is actually faster than hardware rendering, but not fast enough to be usable. Only the Simple tooth chart is fast enough for regular use, but the patients and the doctor prefer the 3D chart, of course.

Any ideas?

Derek insists there was no change to the graphics between 5.0.6 and 5.0.9. Integrated graphics chips are frequently not powerful enough to handle the 3D tooth chart, but I'll let Derek make further comments on that. Try updating the driver. If that does not work, purchase a graphics card. They don't cost very much, and that seems like a very reasonable solution.

I would agree that integrated chips are frequently not powerful enough, but this one is, for this purpose - in fact the 3D tooth chart worked great until yesterday. Also I am running the latest drivers from ATI.

This is not a big deal, I've got some extra graphics cards sitting around and I can pop one in. I just thought I'd mention it.

Update - I installed one of my spare graphics cards and everything is working fine now. I don't know where the problem was, but it's gone.

I have the same problem; it doesn't have anything with graphics cards (i didn't changed my card, and belive me it's a good one); i belive it is something related to database because the chart does more than painting itself, it checks things inside database and act as a result; you may want to check chart code dependencies, code loops etc.

0k, it seems that v 5.1 fixes that chart problem; but you may want to check "allow unsafe..blabla" for release version of OpenDentBusiness.dll because it won't compile without that.

I have the same problem on my home computer. It was fast with previous builds. On 5.0.15 but as slow as can be. Not the card.

I was planning on upgrading to ver 5.X.X tomorrow, but the charting issue is concerning?
Can anyone confirm that the chart module bug is fixed?

I did my upgrade to Ver 5.0.16.0 and the graphics needed to be set to hardware acceleration, after that change everything works great.

I have Dell Optiplex GX 520's with Intel 82945G onboard graphic cards.

You made a mistake when you said 5.1, right? 5.1 is NOT fit for use. I think you understand that.

Yes, that would be 5.1 in the head directory, but you shouldn't use it yet for you real office, because it is still in development and it will mess up your database.

If you use this on your main database and then when you try to upgrade to the beta or released version, It won't be able to convert you database automatically. You would have to do all the mySQL statements yourself. Plus there may be incomplete features that could mess up your database or just cause problems. So, only use the head version of code for testing and programming use on a TEST database.

5.1 is still in development. You have to use 5.0.xx right now.

but why is 5.1 faster than 5.0 ?

I've upgraded OD to 5.0.21 and the latest ATI driver for Express 1100 from Dell. There is no speed improvement. The computer is Dell Optiplex 320. Every one in the office is complaining. Any idea?

We're making significant progress every day on this complex issue. The improvements will be in 5.1, and there are no plans to backport to 5.0.

Done. It's blazing fast now. All that's left to do is make the user interface for the graphics settings window easier to use an more intuitive. Working on that today.

Is the solution has to do with ATI? All computers with ATI that I've checked do not run 3D acceleration.

We just installed version 5.1.11, and got all 20 computers to go blazing fast in the 3D chart. Even ones that have been sluggish for months. Even ones with cheap video cards. It all happened automatically. As far as I'm concerned, slow graphics is now a non-issue. Very few offices should even have to think about or mess with their graphics settings from now on.

Will be trying this out soon. Dr STark called me today to say its hauling butt, which was funny because the next day dr . loftus called to talk about the chart drawing issue and I told him its been solved with 5.1... Oh. We didnt even know you were working on it, and its always drawn fine for me on my X1900XTX Card so I dont see why people are complaining.

I will let you know if I find any problems with the various cards at his office. I have never really seen them draw slowly to be honest.
