Could you please explain how popup notes work. I know how to make one, but when is it supposed to popup, and how do you make it popup again after you click on it?
Thanks, Dr. Neelley

The key piece of information here is that it won't pop up again for the same patient on the same computer for 10 minutes.

Is it supposed to popup only in the appointments module?

No. Everywhere. But then, not again for 10 minutes or unless you change the note.
How do they work?

Can you please explain how to enable/make popup notes and how to use them? I am trying to figure it out (and I am sure it is extremely obvious), but to no avail.
Thanks a lot

Use version 5.4. Click the popup button in the main toolbar. Type in the note.

OD reports that I have version 5.4.0.0, but I will download it again just to make sure that nothing went wrong with the compilation. Tortoise SVN is the right way to download it right? I cannot seem to find it anywhere else on your site.
Love the program by the way.

Please tell me you're not using 5.4.0 with real patient data. That version is NOT suitable for use in a live setting, and it says so right at the top of the page in big red letters.
http://www.open-dent.com/manual/developers.html. But I did just notice that there was no such warning at the top of this page:
http://www.open-dent.com/manual/downloads.html. So I am going to add one.
If you're just playing around with this version, then that's fine. But if you're using it in a live setting, then you're sort of screwed, as you will never be able to upgrade without our help. Anyway, the version number explains your problem. The buttons simply hadn't been added yet. If you do a fresh download, and then try to connect to your database, the most likely result will be that the program will crash since there will be missing fields in the database. A database where the third digit is zero is in an inconsistent state and is not able to be automatically upgraded.
Because your issue is specifically related to the fact that you compiled, I'm moving this topic to the advanced topics category.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I am just fooling around at home with that version. I did not notice that it is not suitable for a live setting. That was a close call. Beta version is not available for the general public, as far as I understood. Well it was worth asking, since I learned a potentially dangerous use of this application.
Thanks

Apologies for the quick reposting, but I another question came to me. The last few times I used tortoise to download a newer revision of the software the database was updated automatically. This has changed or it was the same all the time and I was just lucky that no problems surfaced? How can you compile/ or know which version will be compiled without the third digit 0?
Thanks again

Simple. Don't ever download from the "head" folder for versions that you will use with live data. Instead, download from one of the named version folders. Don't jump the gun and try to use a version that has not been reported as being released yet on our previous versions page.
