Hello all,

I'm an OMS on the verge of switching from a closed PM system over to Open Dental. As a specialist, I really like to see who the patient is referred from. I see how to add this to the Patient Information column in the chart module, and also how to add to the pop-up Appointment bubble when I hover over an appointment, but what I would really like to do is add this directly on the appointment block so that it shows up all the time on the schedule. However, I do not see this field (ReferralFrom) listed under the available rows section. I realize this may be a niche request, but I was wondering if perhaps I am overlooking how to accomplish this...or if not, how difficult it would be to add this as an available field?

There is not currently a way to show ReferralFrom in an appointment view, but we have received a request for this feature. If you do switch to Open Dental, you could vote for this feature. It is request #1846. Please see our manual for more details regarding feature requests,

It isn't as automated as the referrals system, but in the meantime you could create a patient field to store the referral info for a patient.
The patient field could be added to the appointments via the Appointment Views.

I did see that one could add a patient field def, but my understanding of that was that it would prompt for information that would then have to be manually entered. I was hoping for something more like an auto merge field.

I do think I will be transitioning over, so I'll be sure to add my vote for that feature request, although at #1846, it sounds like it might be a long wait.

#1846 is just the identifier for the feature request and doesn't indicate the order in which we will implement requests. The number of votes and difficulty of a feature are indicators of if and when it might be implemented.
