For Open Dental regular or International users that need to use WHATSAPP to text their patients, Mopensoft is in the process of creating a plugin that allows you to text your Patients from inside Open Dental through WHATSAPP . The plugin is in Beta testing now. You dont need a Whatsapp businees account, you can use any Whatsapp account, and it is easy to setup. You need to have OD version 21.1.45
The plugin allows you to send text messages from inside Open Dental.
The option to receive WHATSAPP replies in Open Dental is not available yet.

Plugins are being deprecated for users in the US, so this would only work outside the US.

2- Diafaan Basic: $495 one time payment only - 30 days free trial
3- Wassenger : $20 monthly - 7 days free trial


Whatsapp business account is NOT required. You can use any Whatsapp account

Integrate Whatsapp with Open Dental

Mainly International users like to use Whatsapp and Open Dental software to reach out to their patient.
The setup is a little tricky, and involve connecting few apps together , using Mopensoft SMS, Diafaan, and Wassenger.
Whatsapp business account is NOT required. You can use ANY Whatsapp account.
All errors have been corrected now.

1- put Diafaan in the STARTUP folder so Diafaan will start when you start Windows.
2- -To allow Diafaan to connect to your cell phone and to your network you may need to give permission in Windows Firewall

"Wassenger HTTP Gateway" in Diafaan
Diafaan has many preset "HTTP Gateways"
Diafaan just added the Wassenger script to their http gateway list.
You do not need to contact Diafaan anymore to get that special script, it will be included in their newest versions.

To send Whatsapp messages, is a little easier than receive.

To send cost $20 per month
To send and receive cost $40 per month
To receive, you can also use the FREE whatsapp desktop app

To receive Whatsapp messages, here it gets trickier

A- Add a port forwarding open port 8080

If your computer is behind a NAT router, set up a port forwarding on the router to make sure that the "Wassenger HTTP Gateway" in Diafaan is accessible from the internet. E.g. if your public IP- and port numbers are 123.123.123.123 and 8080, the public URL is http://123.123.123.123:8080
This only works if you open the Diafaan HTTP server of the script to the internet.

You most likely have to add a port forwarding rule to your internet router.
If your IP number is 123.456.123.456, the 'Remote webhook URL' has the form: http://123.456.123.456:8080

Contact Diafaan if you need assistance

to receive Whatsapp messages in Diafaan, and subsequently in Open Dental, you need to add a webhook in Wassenger.

B - to add the webhook in Wassenger , you have to take the following steps in the Wassenger dashboard:
1. Click the Developers link:
2. Click Webhooks
3. Click Create webhook
4. Fill in the name and the link to your IP number and port number

5. Click Create webhook to check if the link works

For Open Dental regular or international users who want to text their patients via WhatsApp, Mopensoft is developing a plugin that integrates WhatsApp messaging directly within Open Dental. The plugin is currently in beta testing. You don’t need a WhatsApp Business account—any WhatsApp account will work, and setup is easy. The plugin requires Open Dental version 21.1.45. It allows you to send text messages from within Open Dental, though receiving WhatsApp replies in Open Dental is not yet available.
