Specify size and position from command line
I have several 21:9 monitors and it would be great if I could have OD launch at defined locations and dimensions without it taking up the entire screen. Is this possible? Thanks!

Re: How to deal with non-assignment insurance
Thanks Arna! Lucky for us there are no PPOs in Canada (yet) so I don't have to deal with writeoffs. So with the insurance portion set to 0%, after the claim is electronically sent does my staff have to do anything? I seem to recall that if the claim status isn't changed/etc it will still be marked a...

How to deal with non-assignment insurance
In my office I have quite a few patients with insurance plans that are not assignable. It works for me because I get paid right away and they can wait for their reimbursement. The problem I have is how to best setup their insurance. Enter 0% for each category? When we do this its not as easy to tell...

Referal email subjects
For most of my referrals I use a custom referral slip and use the 'email' option. Of course it attaches the PDF but the subject is always a problem. If I am referring to Dr. Smith (who is in my referral list with correct information), the subject always ends up 'Dr. Smith to Dr. Smith'. Most of the ...

Re: Expanding schedule with 15-minute blocks?
Adjust the 'rows per time increment' setting. I can't remember which direction...but I have mine set at two and it works for our 23" monitor. (setup--appointment views--double click on your appointment profile).

Re: Open Dental on a MAC
Since Macs do not natively run Windows, you will need Fusion installed and a copy Windows 7 for each workstation. The form factor and the ease of maintenance are the main reasons why I went with Macs instead of Wintel boxes. I admit, I like MacOSX, and you could probably get away with WinTel all-in...

Re: Please help: starting up a practice
If the cost of the equipment is even moderately important, I would not be buying any Apple computers (especially a Pro), and for the cost of the Dexis sensors and their ongoing fees you'll feel like running them over with a chair. I always get a chuckle when I read about having to spend 'hours' gett...

Re: Please help: starting up a practice
I forgot about XDR...it's another great program. Regarding my comment about 'remote access fees'--some other programs charge quite a lot for so-called remote access. OD has a minimal fee for their mobile version, but I haven't tried it yet (logmein works well for me). I agree that you don't -need- a...

Re: Please help: starting up a practice
I made the transition last year with a pretty tight budget as well. Be prepared for a -lot- of compromises. 1) There are quite a few inexpensive (relatively speaking) digital sensors out there that are supported by Apteryx or its branded versions. This isn't as convenient as having it managed comple...

Re: Canadian Claims
Eclaims have been working well at this end of Canada. My front office is now -very- happy. We're also now using sheets/automation/autonotes a lot more and it's amazing how much time we save. I think Open Dental has what it takes now to be a real contender in Canada.

Re: Network requirements for XVLite and OD
XVlite technically doesn't need a server, but simply installed on a host that is accessible to the other peers (makes sense to have it on the computer that hosts mysql). I was even able to install xvlite on a linux host (using wine) but any update could easily break this configuration.

Kudos to the OD team for Canadian eclaims
That's right--eclaims are now possible for many Canadian insurance companies. Technically it appears to be a work in progress right now, but it's working for me. Unfortunately Pacific Blue Cross has to give it's approval to OD before I can submit eclaims to them (and they represent over 90% of my in...

Re: Canadian Claims
So worst case scenario, as the patients come in we add a new insurance carrier/plan (from the new list), and drop the ones we had entered manually. That doesn't sound too problematic, unless I'm overlooking something...

Any idea if our existing databases will require significant changes to work, or will it be necessary to 'start from scratch using your new Canadian database?

Re: Canadian database
Everything seems to be working with the Canadian database provided on your website (although the fees make me feel like I'm working for peanuts). Regarding fee schedules...I'm going to assume that creating new schedules (2010 BCDA, 2010 First Nations, 2010 Welfare/etc) will be better than using the ...

Canadian database
Are there any Canadian users out there who can share their tips for making OD more functional? The Canadian database (beta) looks really cool...especially how it can manage a standard claim form. The problem I have is that the database causes issues for some aspects of OD. For example, selecting a p...

Re: Canadian e-claim/EDI bridge
Interesting find...
The office I just purchased doesn't even have a single computer in it (and it isn't even wired for internet--that's the next step). Open Dental is being installed as soon as my computers arrive, but it would be really sweet if eclaims were functional. Definitely a teaser!!
