We haven't added a new employee in several years so we are rusty. The new person can log in, is a part of the assistant group, he shows up in the employee list in the manage module but the clock-in button is greyed out. What are we missing?

Sorry to keep bugging you about this.
Can I simply uninstall OpenDental from my copy of the server but leave mysql running and serving the opendental DB? ie. Does opendental itself have to be installed on the server for the workstations to operate?

Yeah, I was afraid of that. Way too much work. Maybe I'll add a suggestion for a "automaticallyAddToOpenDental" folder (like iTunes). Drop a wee bit of xml in there that points to the file, the desired folder and the patientID and it gets added like magic. A guy can dream, can't he?

FWIW, I haven't seen the blank chart problem on any of my PCs since upgrading to 17.2 I was going by the web page: http://opendental.com/manual/version17_2.html which indicates no changes have been made since June, before all this cropped up. Great, thanks!It turns out you can add the Chart Number to a lab slip. Within the Edit Sheet Def window, click the StaticText button. Then click on ChartNumber, click OK, and drag the ChartNumber field to the location you want it.

It seems to me that OD used to automatically change the code on plastic and amalgam restorations if I changed the number of surfaces on the procedure. Some where someone changed that setting but I cannot figure out how to change it back. Can someone point me to the correct place?

Yep, my entire network went down Monday, 9/26/16 because Win 10 updated on the physical box. My servers run in VM's. I had to download and update vmPlayer to 12.5. ( If every vm in the world was going to die this week unless you upgraded vmware, shouldn't they at least shoot their customers a email...

Epilogue: Tech support remoted in and used the database maint functions to analyze the db, fix errors and optimize the DB. Reports that took 5 - 15 min now are instantaneous. Yay!

Windows 8.1 on my desk computer since it went live.
I backup OD (using Manage->backup) to a folder on the disk, compress it and encrypt it (second copy) and move it to dropbox where my home server grabs it and moves it to a different disk.
Nothing changed for me with the upgrade.

Thanks for the suggestions. It appears that the problem is an artifact of the data conversion process from my old scheduling software. One or two appointments a day ignore the dentist/hyg settings for the operatory. The problems should magically disappear in 6 months.
