Post by fishdrzig » Thu Feb 04, 2010 11:01 am

Can medical codes be used in OD? I would like to make a patient a TAP appliance for sleep apnea and have no idea how to bill through medical using OD? Thanks for any help

Yes. http://www.opendental.com/manual/medicalins.html
The very hardest part is going to be determining which medical code to use. Good luck with that. Glad I'm in dental instead of medicine.

Thanks for the link, Jordan

Once the correct code and fee are chosen, does it follow the same path as a dental claim in OD, i.e. sent through the clearinghouse for dental and tracked by reports with OD?

No. It gets printed on a preprinted 1500 claim form. You must purchase them from someplace. According to the regulations, nobody is allowed to print them like we do with the dental claims. The printed form gets mailed.
