Provider/Procedure Code Assignment

If an operatory is assigned a provider, why can't all the procedure codes associated with that op be credited to the provider?

And/or...........

If a practice has one dentist and two or more hygienists and patients are seen by any or all hygienists, how does one keep track of what provider completed what procedure?

1. I believe you can automatically assign all procedures to the provider. Give be a scenario where it doesn't work.

2. When you drop an appointment onto a hygienist's operatory, it reassigns the appointment to that hygienist. And when completed, the procs automatically assign to the appropriate providers.

So if neither of those things is working for you, then there is something different about the way you are doing things. It should all be working well and automatically. We would have to see your screen.

Aren't you getting prompted to change the provider on an appt when you drag it to a new op? You should be.

I run a Procedures report for Hygienist 1.
The only things that appear are 01110, 1120 and 4341.
No x-rays, panos or fl show up.
Setup= hygienist is only provider for the op

Great explanation. Are the x-rays, panos, and fl all set as hygiene procedures in your procedure code edit window? If not, then the program will think they are dentist procedures (such as fillings). A hygienist would never be allowed to be the provider for procedures that were only done by a dentist.

I guess that is kinda the point.......
The dentist generally doesn't take x-rays.
It is either the assistants or the hygienists.
In my office, they both do panos, bwx and pa every day.
One hyg is more pano friendly than the other.
I would like to be able to see just how much more friendly.

FYI, In California, auxillary employees (hyg, rda, efrda are allowed to perform more "dentist procedures".
Though I do not do this in my office, I'm sure many offices will use these newly allowed duties/functions.

The short answer is no.
The only procedures in my office assigned as hygiene procedures are prophys and root planes.

But if they were, would not all the x-rays taken by anyone other than a hygienist be credited to hygiene?

Are you suggesting that a hygiene procedure done in a "dentist" op will be credited to the dentist and not to hyg?

I can't figure out why you would not want to set the x-rays as hygiene procedures in the procedure code edit window. If you do, then

1. If only a hygienist is assigned to the appointment, then the x-rays will be assigned to that hygienist like you want.
2. If both a dentist and a hygienist are assigned to an appointment, then it will assign the x-rays to the hygienist. (I think that's what you want).
3. If only a dentsit is assigned to the appointment, it will assign all procedures to the dentist.

Can you illustrate eg Appointments screen what you mean by 2 above please? How can both a dentist and hygienist be assigned to an appointment? I thought only one provider could be assigned to the appointment column (operatory), so that any procedures in the appointment when set complete are assigned to the provider for that operatory.

Oh no. There is extensive support for being able to assign both a dentist and a hygienist to the same operatory at the same time. And every appointment can be assigned both a dentist and a hygienist. To make it work, the hygiene provider does need to be set as a secondary provider in the provider edit window. Look in the manual under Operatories, too. The documentation is all in the manual.
