Same patient database, different location
Same patient database, different location
I currently have a pc which functions as a peer to peer server, with 4 workstations in a practice. We may need to expand to another location nearby soon. What would be the easiest way, to set up another "server"- which duplicates the patient database, and functions in real time in the new practice?
All pcs are running Windows 7, 64 bit.
thanks for any pointers.

Thanks Jordan.
Could you explain how much IT support and know how I would need for the database with replication solution? I did manage to set up my own peer to peer network with 4 workstations with just a little bit of help. I am leaning towards this solution because it seems to not just provide another copy of the "server" but will not have the slowdowns associated with VPN etc. I work in Singapore and internet speeds here are ok, not great.

You need more than an IT person. You will need a "database administrator". So quite a lot of work.

Jordan,
Would replication require another identical PC to my server? Is there a way to "try" replication with a spare PC first before taking it online for active operations?
thanks

Yes, our multiple locations page and our replication page both explain that you should try a one way slave as your first step and that this is not dangerous.

Sounds like you are better off using remote terminal type server. Take a look at XP Unlimitted. You don't need a Win2K8 server to run a terminal server
