Recommendations for outsourcing IT support for OpenDental in San Jose, CA
Does anyone have a good local provider to help with IT support for OpenDental? I'm currently supporting our single office installation of OD, but would like to have additional support to migrate the installation to a new server PC. Then I'd like this resource to advise us on adding OD eServices. I'm also looking for advise / best practices for backup and recovery. My installation with images is getting very big and would like to know the pro/con of incremental backups and how this impacts recovery in case of a full system crash. Is a remote person a feasible option? I'm trying to research costs and potential providers, but not sure if I'm getting good options by Googling "small business IT support"? I don't really need PC support more of networking, sql and applications?

Scott.filler,
I recommend looking through the following page to find a local IT vendor that will work for you.
https://www.opendental.com/site/vendorscomputer.html
The page is broken down by state and California is further specified by area.
I hope this helps find an IT vendor that will help with your needs.

In regards to backups:
We offers recovery deployment options that can be particularly beneficial for dental practices. Here are the primary deployment options available:
1. On-Premises Deployment
Physical Appliance: Dentists can install a physical appliance on-site to manage backups and recoveries. This provides quick access to local data and ensures that critical patient information is readily available in the event of a system failure.
Virtual Appliance: A virtual appliance can be deployed on existing hardware. This is particularly useful for practices looking to utilize their current infrastructure while benefiting from system backup and recovery capabilities.
2. Cloud Deployment
Data can be backed up directly to our secure cloud environment. This option ensures off-site data storage, providing an additional layer of protection against local disasters such as fires or floods.
Hybrid Model: Many dental practices opt for a hybrid approach, combining both on-premises and cloud solutions. This offers the advantages of quick local recovery while also ensuring that data is safely stored off-site.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Data Recovery Options
Bare Metal Recovery: This allows practices to restore systems to their original state, including the operating system and all applications, which is crucial for quickly returning to full operational status after a major failure.
File and Folder Recovery: Dentists can restore specific files or folders as needed without performing a full system recovery, which saves time and effort.
Benefits for Dental Practices
Regulatory Compliance: helps ensure that dental practices comply with HIPAA regulations regarding patient data protection.
Scalability: As dental practices grow, their data protection needs can evolve. Our solutions can scale accordingly.
Data Security: Advanced security features protect sensitive patient information from breaches and ransomware attacks.
Features:
Chain-Free Backups: technology allows for backups without the traditional dependency on chains, simplifying recovery processes and avoiding issues associated with broken chains.
AutoVerify: This feature ensures that backups are always recoverable by performing automated checks for data corruption after each backup.
Flexible Backup Scheduling: Backups can be scheduled as frequently as every 15 minutes, providing near real-time data protection.
Ransomware Protection: A feature called AirGap protects backups from being accessed or deleted by ransomware attacks, ensuring that recovery options remain intact.
Instant Virtualization: Users can virtually recover data both locally and in the cloud almost instantly, allowing for minimal downtime.
Direct-to-Cloud Backup: provides a hardware-free option that allows for direct backups to the cloud, reducing the need for physical appliances.
File and Folder Recovery: Various methods are available for recovering specific files and folders, including tools for quick restores via snapshot browsing or iSCSI connections for larger file sets.
Comprehensive Recovery Options: Recovery can be performed from local appliances, cloud, or a private cloud, depending on the situation and needs.
Snapshot Exporting: Users can export snapshots in multiple formats (e.g., VMDK, VHDX) for flexibility in recovery processes.
I hope this helps
