I have an issues that I am trying to figure out, Slow user login to OpenDental from only one computer, my office desk.
On most computers in my office, when I log into open dental from the user login screen, it takes between 2 and 5 seconds, depending on how old or new the computer is to show the full module screen and load the patient, most of my older i7 computers, probably 2 seconds. However, on my personal desk computer, it was taking about 12 seconds...considerably longer and annoying when waiting for it to be ready.
I had a 5th gen i3, so I thought that was the issue and got two "new" used xeon workstations for two of our doctor's desks. They are basically identical specs, E5-2699 v3 64GB ram. 1GBs wired network connection. My login speed is identical as with the old i3 with a brand new install of windows, etc on the new 16 core processor at my desk, 13 seconds. The funny thing is,my associate's computer (identical to mine now, both 32 thread xeons) the login speed for my user name is 2.5 seconds.
I know this is highly dependent on network speed and processor speed, but this issue is baffling me and seeing if you guys have any pointers to try and check. Maybe my network cable is damaged and isn't transmitting 1GBs even though windows says it is? I tried changing the network name of my computer to see if that made a difference to past logs of OD or something, no change. Any ideas? an interfering program? Any clues as to why this one computer takes so long to load OD?

Re: Slow Login
Assuming the network connection is identical across the board (double check that Wifi is not enabled, accidentally or otherwise), you might have more plugins active on that one PC. Not exactly sure how, but could be a service that's only running on your personal computer that interacts with some plugin on login? Another possible explanations, your personal computer has an invalid connection to the "OpenDentImages" folder; go to Setup -> Data Paths, copy the path to the clipboard, then open Windows Explorer and paste the path in and see how long it takes to directly access that folder. It might also be that your personal computer login is triggering a slower SQL query compared to logins from other machines, not sure how or why this would happen.
Re: Slow Login
well, for kicks, I decided to plug in a new wifi6 adapter (1.2gbs) and unplug my gigabit Ethernet. Guess what? 2 second log in now.
Moral of the Story: Don't trust the windows reported connection speed of your ethernet cable, it said 1.0gbit, but it obviously wasn't and must have some sort of defect or interference!

Re: Slow Login
I'll never forget when we solved a slowness issue here at HQ that plagued us for a really long time. It ended up being a bad cable. To our dismay, it wasn't simple like the cable that is easy to access from the back of the computer. Hopefully it's just a bad cable for you between your NIC / MOBO and its destination and not a cable buried in your office wall or something...
The best thing about a boolean is even if you are wrong, you are only off by a bit.
