print custom labels?
print custom labels?
I have a brother QL-500 label printer. I am able to print individual patient address labels on this printer. Is there a way to print label with
A: Patient Appoint label with Patient Name, Appointment time & Date and provider's name.
B: Same as A plus address to stick to post card?
C: How about a screen where I can customize labels or post card it self?
I tried to Read The Fine Manual on-line but could not find the instructions. If it does exist, a link would be appreciated.

Re: print custom labels?
I have heard first hand that "The Appointment Label" is a high priority on the update list.

Re: print custom labels?
Label customization falls under the sheets framework. It is under heavy development and is tied intricately to the referral slip feature. You're going to see a lot of improvements to such printouts when the sheets framework is released soon.

Re: print custom labels?
good to hear that I am not alone asking for this. While the update is in works, any work arounds, tweaks to get the functionality that I need? (Some thing easier than Custom Querry /ODBC -> office product -> print label . Well, my label software does support ODBC or so it claims. How about a custom querry then? Can somebody please post one?
Re: print custom labels?
Our "work around" is to just write the appointment info by hand on the card and hand it to the patient. It's a bit old fashioned but it works, only a few mis-written cards in a year where the patient shows up for the appointment on the card and it is not the same as the actual appointment scheduled.

same here, we write the appt info on the back of our business cards
Re: print custom labels?
Dave,
That has been standard procedure for us before we got opendent. Hope to see the modern software doing automatic labels soon.

Re: print custom labels?
Update to version 5.8. There are no instructions. You have to figure it out for now. The labels work out of the box. For customization, the setup is under Sheets.

I see 5.81 beta. Is this the one? What other stuff is beta in this version? I do not want to mess up with production system just to bet labels unless it is safe to do so. I normally do not update unless it says stable. In general, where can I see changelog without downloading source for the update?jordansparks wrote:Update to version 5.8. There are no instructions. I installed it on a test system. I see sheets in setup. I also see appointment label but I do not see it in appointments module. Can you please provide basic howto?

As for the beta status. I say just go for it. The worst it will do is give you an occasional error message. No big deal. Especially after the first few days. Just be sure to update frequently.

Got it. I will update the production system this Saturday. One problem though,
The label prints first_Name 'preferred_name' Last name. So I have

Is there a way to customize on either first_name or preferred_name field? I am OK with Don Duck or Donald Duck if there is limitation, but just one please...

Jordan -
I tried out the 5.8 beta and like the flexibility that sheets can give - this customization will serve us all very well. So while it is on the table, several requests:
1) is there any way to make (and set) the selector window wider? When I attempt to drag the corner, there are no handles.
2) Two extra fields that would be really handy (in the selector window) would be 'last/next appointment date' and 'recall date'
3) I've got to play with account types for sorting, but color coding (of the patient name) would still be handy. My old program had a pop-up with the 16 color palette to color code the name/background in its selector.
4) The slider doesn't show up unless 'Get all' is pushed. Is there a way to make 'Get all' and 'show/hide' 'sticky' so the preferences remain until needed?
IMHO, because the selector is one part of the program that you are always passing through, the fewer the number of keystrokes, the better.
Thanks for all your hard work!
Rick
PS- I traced down some conversion issues using a SQL Query - Wow- it's like having the keys to every door in the kingdom!

Re: print custom labels?
1. yes
2. I had a feeling we'd quickly begin to get requests for more columns. I'll add it to the request list.
3. I'll add it as a request. Do you mean you want to set the color manually per patient? Or do you mean you want to set it based on something like billing type?
4. You might be using it wrong. You're supposed to type a few letters of the last name. The checkbox to refresh as you type should be checked. That will quickly limit your list to be shorter than the screen. Why would you routinely want a long list in that window? The goal is to pick one patient, not a thousand.

Re: print custom labels?
Jordan-
That makes sense about the selector and the 'get all' button. As I think about it, because we've been doing lots of setup and data checking, we have been using it much more for selecting all. So in day-to-day situation, you're right, I wouldn't be using it much.
Also What about making the checkboxes (hide inactive) sticky?
With the colors, in my Intellident program I can right-click on a name and assign it a color on the fly. So when Joe 'the check is in the mail' Smith calls, I can right click on his name and make it red. I am using the pop-ups to do this in OD. This gets your attention even earlier so when you see his name in the selector screen, it would be red. And It would also be advantageous to assign the color according to billing types as you mentioned.
If you ever want some screenshots of Intellident, feel free to pick my brain. It had a lot of nice features and customizations.
best,
Rick

Re: print custom labels?
Can't make the "hide inactive" box sticky. See http://70.90.133.65/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1049
It's just too dangerous. Not in the sense that it will cause data corruption. But there's a 100% chance that it will cause multiple offices major frustration when they can't find a patient, and that there will be many duplicate patients created as a result. In inactive patient will never be hidden by default. If you don't want to see them, archive them.
If only Intellident had been open source. Then, it would have been impossible for it to ever die.

Re: print custom labels?
Tell me about it. They were a wonderful small company in Lebanon, New Hampshire - very responsive to the customer's needs and a good product. But I suppose that the joys and profit from a small business <G,D and R> were just too great for Bill and the buyout from Infocure/Practiceworks/Kodak too attractive to resist. If only Intellident had been open source. Then, it would have been impossible for it to ever die.
The other joy of open source is that I can access my data - all of it!

Re: print custom labels?
This is a nice idea. But it looks like several premade labels to copy, each with very limited fields to choose from and therefore not much customization, other than appearance. How about just one custom label, with lots of fields to choose from? For example, an office wants a folder label with patient phone numbers on it.

Re: print custom labels?
We are just showing you some examples of what you can do. Notice that most of the labels are all of the same type: LabelPatient. So we really do have just one label type with lots of fields. At the moment, lots means 9. But it's very easy to add more fields as customers demand it. We would have added them all at the beginning, but there are other priorities. If you really want the phone numbers, we would be happy to add them. What's important is that the foundation is in place, and that customers can at least customize the labels that we already had available.

Re: print custom labels?
I bet it has to do with your windows language settings or something. mine is printing MM/DD/YYYY
Re: print custom labels?
I have the regional setting to display MM:DD:YYYY at both the workstation and the server but it is still printing DD:MM:YYYY. Any other spot to correct the setting?
Also the appointment labels are defaulting to the default printer instead of the label printer. If I set the default to prompt we can manually override and get them to print on the label printer.
