Have you tried to actually Stop and then Start the Mysql service? Sometimes when you first install is says that it is started but it did not really start. Can you try that?

So you are trying to install Open Dental and Mysql on the H: drive? Usually we do not recommend installing on a different drive other than C: because you will run into problems. The Open Dental program and the Mysql program do not take up that much space so I would keep them on the C: drive but you can put the OpenDentImages and Data folder on the H: drive that is what is going to eventually take space. So what you need to do is:
In the installer window you pick New Server then the only thing you change is the OpenDentImages and the opendental Database to the H: drive.
Then you install it.
After that you need to go to your C:\Program Files\Mysql\Mysql Server 5.0 and in there is a my.ini open that in notepad
Then you just change the datadir="C:/mysql/data/" from C: to H: and save it.
Then when you open up Open Dental after you choose your database you want to use it is going to ask for the Data Path. That is where you select the OpenDentImages that is on your H:
It could be a lot of other things too. Why are you trying to install 4.8? Do you have the full version? If so you should probably call us so we can take a look at your computer.
Also is the H: drive a removable drive? If so, it might be changing drive letter names when you take it off and put it back on your computer.

no, H was the DVD-ROM drive where the opendental disc was in.
