Fuji Scansnap S510
is there any way to bridge the ScanSnap into Open dental (it is a non-twain scanner). At present, I scan to a file and import which works fine, but...

At this time if it does not have a twain driver you cannot scan directly into Open Dental.

In general, if we were to build a bridge, the other softwware would have to publish specifications on bridging. IN this case, we would have to launch the Fuji software and send it the path to save the file to. IF the software accepts such an argument, then it is possible, and would be a request.

Thanks Nathan -
I wonder how many offices reading this are using the Scansnap?

Re: Fuji Scansnap S510
One way for us to "bridge" it would be to have a designated temp folder. Any image that showed up in the folder would be immediately grabbed and imported into the current patient chart. This has been planned for quite some time.

Sort of like a 'universal' bridge?
That would be very handy for a number of items (ie. intra-oral cameras, scanners of all types)

Right. For example, I think the ScanX can be set to drop images into a temp folder in this manner.

Re: Fuji Scansnap S510
any progress on this folder idea?
Re: Fuji Scansnap S510
Rickliftig,
We have a ScanSnap S510 and a Fujitsu fi-6130, for scanning EOBs mostly. We added the FI model as it does support twain and is still a great self feeding scanner like the S510. We're not using OD (yet) so I'm not sure if it supports scanning via twain source, but if it does, you might consider upgrading to a Fujitsu (love their scanners) that does support twain. The folder pickup of files is a good idea too, but would require development.

Re: Fuji Scansnap S510
found this old post. Wondering if there is any way to bridge the Scan Snap S1500 directly to OD yet?

Re: Fuji Scansnap S510
In version 11.1, we have automatic document feeder (adf) support that automatically generates multi-page pdfs right inside OD. But we do this with ordinary Twain scanners. The folder watcher strategy is still a good one, but we just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Re: Fuji Scansnap S510
Good to know about ADF option, for when we upgrade.
Fujitsu does have a model up from ScanScan that supports standard twain driver. We have a FI-6130 primarily for scanning driver's license and insurance cards, as the lower end ScanScans don't scan cards.
Kill two birds with one stone - get a Fujitsu that supports twain and scans cards. So easy to crop (really easy with OD - copy/paste) the headshot from the drivers license and make it a patient photo.
I'll try the ADF + FI6130 someday.
