Scanned documents Security question..

Post by Yorek » Fri Jun 26, 2009 11:15 pm

I think it was mentioned before that Data in MySQL is secure.

Our question is..
Are our Scanned (JPEG) documents in OD Images Secure?
Seems like anyone can open these.

These are Documents which may contain regulated patient information.
(Does anyone scan EOB's, health questionares or driver's licenses, etc.)

So unless we're wrong and it's secure..
Can anyone offer a seemless way to do this when OD is opened and closed.
Maybe a macro or some other security programming?

Files can be encrypted at the Windows level. If you turn on encryption for a folder and someone steals a hard drive, they cannot access the files without the Windows password.

However, I also suggest that the hard drive that contains those files be locked in a safe with the wire running out so that you don't even have to open the safe to access the files over the lan. So physically protect them. If someone actually broke into the office, connected to that hard drive and tried to transfer the files to their own hard drive, it would take a few hours. That's not realistic.

Security is one reason we are moving to the new web service. A later improvement will require username and password behind the scenes as each file is accessed. That would help secure the data from access across the network, especially for larger offices that do not have physical control over the many workstations.

The forementioned security and web features, is this a current idea in thought and development, or is this an item we need to vote for?

The web service itself is done and in testing. Removing the requirement for the AtoZ folder to be shared on the network is a feature request and I just added it as:
Add security to AtoZ images folder.
