Letters Bug?

Post by drtech » Tue Jan 27, 2009 8:42 am

v6.4.3
I am copying all my letters over to the sheets framework, but I am having a problem w/ the global growing text box. it doesn't seem to automatically grow like i would expect on longer letters and the text appears cut off. Anyone trying this out yet?

I would assume that you set the text of the letter to be almost exactly what you want so that the growing doesn't have to kick in very often. Is it just cutting off the last line? Microsoft text size measurement is not accurate, so there were some arbitrary guesses that had to be made about height. Options are:
1. We could increase the arbitrary amount slightly if it's just one line.
2. We can let the user drag it bigger in a future version.
3. You could trick it by putting some character a few lines down. I don't know if a space would trigger growth. If that doesn't work, a period would work for sure.

When the body of a quick letter is pasted into the "letter text" field and saved for a PatientLetter in Sheets, and later you hit the Letter button to create one for a patient, the field has not expanded anymore than in Setup, and has not pushed the other fields down on the letter as expected. If one goes into that field to edit the letter text, and hits "enter" there are line feeds and the text moves up in the field but the text box doesn't expand. There must be some special technique to get it to work. In something such as RDL, the textbox cell will expand if needed to allow the display of the text inside it.

Oh, no. You will need to manually make it the right size when in the setup portion. That means moving other elements down as well as changing the height of the box itself. The growth only happens when you are typing later in the fill window.

I've been somewhat frustrated with this as well. The field does not seem to grow at all. Say if you put 5 lines in the setup and type 7 lines, the field does not grow but only scrolls and the last two lines do not print. If you put 10 lines in the setup and only need to type 2 lines then there is a large blank between the last typed line and the sincerely and it looks stupid. It may be that sheets does not support a true expandable memo field.

I thought it worked better than that. I'll put it down as a bug.
