Dropbox for synching and backup?

Post by yuendds » Tue Feb 03, 2009 5:56 am

Would Dropbox work with OpenDental? If it does then it would be a great way to synch and backup to a home computer

Has anyone used dropbox for backup with OD or quickbooks or images or anything?

I use dropbox all the time for other programs, like word files and small backups - it's a great utility. However, my Open Dental database is about 70 Megabytes and the Images come to about 2 gigabytes at this time, so I think it would be inefficient at these capacities.

We use Dropbox for FrontDesk data, and Zumodrive for OD and Images. One thing i like about Zumodrive is that it is bandwidth throttling so it won't hog up your internet connection[same with DropB], and its software created a "virtual drive" on your PC. We also use SyncBackSE to backup data to our home through VPN tunnel.

my bet is if you schedule a replicator to copy your database file to dropbox every night at 2:00 AM, it would work well. i'll give it a try and report back.
