Backup seems simple - What about restoring

Post by khdilger » Wed May 05, 2010 6:02 am

I am likely going to setup OpenDental at the practice I am purchasing. I have read through the manuals instructions on backup and searched through these forums for information on backup. I think the actual backup of the data seems straightforward. My concern comes on the ability to restore system in the event of a system failure.

Does anybody have input on restoring? I am sure there are several scenarios. What would be the top few reasons of why you would need to restore from backup? Whats the typical scenario of how you would restore from an entire crashed computer? It seems like it would be necessary or wise to have a complete image of the servers original & operational configuration to reload quickly.

Any input appreciated,
Kenny

The way you become comfortable with the backup process is by restoring to your home computer approximately once a week. Once you have the sequence down, it would only take a few minutes to turn some other computer in your office into the database server.
