How to change the category for co-payment estimate
How to change the category for co-payment estimate
By default Open Dental uses the fee percentage for minor procedures for core build-up (D2950). Many insurance companies use the percentage for major procedures for D2950. I thought changing the Category for D2950 to Crown and Bridge under "List/Procedure Codes" will change the calculation for co-payment estimate. But it doesn't. What is the right way to do that? Thanks.
Re: How to change the category for co-payment estimate
You can specify a different percentage for individual codes using the "Other Benefits" box at the bottom of the "Edit Benefits" window. Double click the other benefits box and select NONE in category, enter D2950 in Proc code, and enter the correct percentage in Percent. What you tried to do by changing it to the Crown and Bridge category should also work if you try to do that under the Setup/ Insurance Categories, but it would affect all insurance plans instead of just one. The procedure categories under the Lists/Procedure Codes is just for organization of the codes, not for function.

In order to change the way the computer generates the percentages for the build ups is you have to go under "set up" then choose insurance catagories. I'm sure every office is differnent as we are only on version 6.3 so if you are updated this may look or now be different.
Double click on Restorative catagory and change the code range to D2000 to D2940
then click on +add span and do codes D2951 to D2998
Go to crowns and put the code range from D2700 to D2950
This should work as it did for me
