power loss

Post by murmsk » Mon Dec 10, 2007 8:01 pm

as an ice storm descends on us and the probability of losing power I thought of a question. I have all my computers especially the server on ups's with the thought that if the power goes out during a transaction there should be enough time to complete it thus I never worried about the database becoming corrupted.
Today while sittin on the crapper I realized my router would go down with the electricity I assume network traffic would stop too.

So my question should I ups my router too?

what would happen to my data if everything went dark in the middle of a transaction?

As long as the server was on the UPS, then the corrupt packet would just get dropped, and the database would not be corrupt. If power did go out on the server during a write, the data would be corrupt, but MySQL would probably be able to repair itself when you started back up.
