appt ref. number

Post by jamesx2 » Sun Jan 20, 2008 7:24 pm

I have noticed that alot of my patients names do not show on some of the reports. My IT guy has looked at it and said that all the patients with a 0 in the patient referance area are the ones not showing. Can anyone tell me what the patient referance number means?

Sorry just a little backround info. we have a hospital system that is currently downloading all the patients demographic info into OD. I know this is what is causing the problem, but I without knowing what the pt. ref number is my IT guy cant fix the problem.

thank you

Please see http://www.open-dent.com/OpenDentalDocu ... ml#patient. You will notice that there is no such field as "patient referance". So I'll need to know which field you're actually talking about in order to answer your question.

some patients have a "0" appointment reference number in the procedure log table.

I am not a programmer so sorry I cant be more specific. Here is what my IT guy wrote to me. I will also send him a note to see if he can be more specific.

A procedurelog.AptNum of zero is never a problem.

I realize this is an old topic, but I had a question on this subject. I am writing a workflow tool that reads data from the Open Dental MySQL database, and I'm also curious about the use of the procedurelog.aptnum column. This column appears to be 0 until you double-click on the procedure within the appointment. However, if you don't do that, it is still 0. If it is 0, how does Open Dental make the association between the appointment and the procedure? My tool needs to know this, so that it can find the appropriate procedure for a specified appointment.

The column will have a value once procedures are attached by single clicking inside appt edit window and clicking OK. I don't know why you think it's still 0.

I wasn't the original poster - not sure what "you think it's still 0" is in reference to. Regardless, I agree with what you say that as soon as the procedure is created within the appointment, the procedurelog.aptnum column is populated with the correct aptnum value. However, if I go in and delete some of the procedures for that appointment, I find that every value in the procedurelog.aptnum column that had that aptnum value is replaced with 0's. However, the UI still shows the appointment association with that procedure, so I'm unsure of how that's done. Let me post some screenshots so you can see what I'm talking about.

First off, appointments and procedurelog are both empty:

If I create an appointment in OD like this and assign some procedures, I see this:

Image

procedurelog now looks like this (aptnum is populated) - you'll notice there are 9 records, corresponding to the 9 in the appointment:

Image

If I now go into OD and delete all but one of the appointments, I see this:

Image

procedurelog now looks like this - you can see that aptnum is zero for every single procedure, including the one that was not deleted:

If I go back into OD, the procedure is still there:

Is this user error on my part or a bug? How does OD maintain that association if aptnum is zeroed out, by design or bug?

Regards,

The procedure in that appointment in the screenshot is not "attached" to the appointment. That single row inside the appt edit window would have to have a grey background to indicate that it was attached. No bug. Just a training issue.

Ok, I understand - the procedure can be listed, but it's not associated with an appointment if it's not selected. So, if you select multiple procedures to delete them, unselecting the valid one in the process, you would need to re-select the valid one after the others are deleted to re-associate it?
