Task list changes

Post by drtech » Fri Sep 28, 2007 11:18 am

I think it is a great addition to have the task list at the bottom of the screen!
While you are working on that section thought I would bring up some wishes again for the task list.
1) if by date tasks would continue to show up after the due date if they are not completed
2) you could rearrange the order of lists

This will not initially be an advertised feature because it requires a larger screen size than our posted minimum. I expect many significant changes to be made to task list now that we have it at the bottom of the screen where it will never go away. Of particular interest to me is how to merge the "Tasks" feature with the planned "Instant Messaging" feature. But yes, the two changes you listed are certainly smaller step in the right direction. Dated tasks need to be easier to access than having to click on a separate tab. Some serious thought is going into how to better organize the whole thing and put all the important info on one screen.

Yes, I understand...i have been looking forward to better organization of it like you say. (Just throwing out ideas, I know this would take some fairly serious work to do these things) if it is more integrated with the current light/message system (or expanded function of that to an "instant messenger") maybe it wouldn't actually need to be at the bottom, but part of the buttons on the left?

As it is now, people don't know/remember they have tasks without going to the right list, so moving it to be visible is a great first step if you have screen space like you say. But you wouldn't need any extra space if it was integrated with the message buttons somehow. Tasks/messages could trigger "lights" to come on to let you know they are there just like the current messaging. They could have target recipients, that way if everyone is supposed to see the message, there would be multiple statuses for each person that has read the message. They could be attached to patients, task/messages could be dated. I envision Dated messages to show up with the appt book somehow, maybe just an indicator that there are tasks for that day. Then the task would have a completed statuses with the proper person marked who completed the task.

Screens just have to be bigger. 22" widescreens with 1680x1050 are available on tigerdirect for under $200. I think if we can choose to dock the task list to the bottom or to the right side, depending on the shape of the monitor, then we could make it generally available. I'll probably work on the docking logic fairly soon. They need to be annoyingly visible at all times in order to be effective. I don't want to see a light. I want to see the actual message. I plan on HEAVILY using instant messaging.

sounds great...

and yes, that 22" Acer monitor from tiger is really good. I have a few of those we bought for our Church last year. Only $179 now!
