Posting payments to payment plans

There have been a number of changes around payment plans and reading the documentation I can't figure out what we're doing wrong when posting payments to payment plans. We can see the payment on the plan but on the ledger it shows up under 'hidden splits' and the actual amount due on the plan doesn't decrease on the patient ledger. Thanks!

Are you entering the payment via the API?
If so, it is likely that the culprit is the preference found here:

The definition set in that preference is most likely set as Do Not Show On Account. The office will need to set up a definition without that flag set and change that preference if they would like Payment Plan Prepayments to show up on the account.

That feels really clunky - so there's no way for us to make sure when we're posting from the API to make sure it actually hits the ledger like we'd expect without our client doing something on their end?

If I understand correctly, they have to create a definition with specific settings and then select this custom definition? In which case, what's the definition type, trying to find it in the documentation (https://www.opendental.com/manual/definitions.html) but can't find one that seems to match.

In 23.3, you are no longer required to make a prepayment to payment plans via the API, so this won't happen if you choose to not make prepayments for that version and higher moving forward. If you choose to not make prepayments, the unearned type will not be set and this will no longer occur.

The definition type you are looking for is Pay Split Unearned Type.

Gotcha - so in 23.3 we can set prePayment to false and everything will flow through as expected. Thanks!

Any rumors as to when 23.3 may come out of beta?

Very soon. The engineering team and the testing department are running through final checks for both the 23.3 stable version and the 24.1 beta version.
