Handling Ortho Patients

Post by babysilvertooth » Tue Jan 04, 2011 1:36 pm

How do you handle patients in a GP practice that are having some form of ortho? IE Invisalign, Six MOnth Smiles, aligner therapy, etc? IN other words, making sure Ortho benefits are tracked separately from general benefits, tracking their appoints, etc?

Thanks

You could start by taking a look at our ortho page

OD works quite well for mixed practices. We make a separate patient for our ortho pt's if the last name is murmann then their ortho last name is Or-Murmann. This was recommended by my first ortho mentor 25 years ago and has worked well over the years it keeps everything straight and stops the questions when people confuse timed payment charges from regular visit charges . OD most likely has the ability to keep it straight but it works well for me.

The ability to dray on the chart has been a great advancement in ortho record keeping. I put a black slash on each tooth that is bracketed and a line for the archwire that is color coded to size. Elastics, IPR, springs and the like all can be drawn in. A copy of the chart is saved at each appointment. Just a glance tells me where we are.
