I was going to sign up with callfire to try out the text messaging features, but it looks like they changed the API setup? The manual says to enter the API key, but I don't see anywhere to enter the password they add to it also...
Any help? Thanks.
CallFire Changed?
Re: CallFire Changed?
There is no separate password for Call Fire, at least that would be used with Open Dental. The key is essentially a user ID and password combined.

Re: CallFire Changed?
CallFire now has two totally different APIs. We use the "classic" one, I think it's called. Their website seems to be halfway converted, and it's easy to end up in the wrong part of it, with the wrong API. We should put some warnings at the top of our page in the manual.

Carefully follow the steps on our website here: http://www.opendental.com/manual/textMessages.html. Be sure not to click any of the links at the top of callfire's website until you log in. They will all take you to the wrong site. Once you sign up using the link from our site you will automatically be logged in, then you will be able to find the API Key you need.
You will likely need to register again, even if you already have a username and login with CallFire. Also, after you register, when you need to log back in to CallFire again, you will want to use the link from our manual (the link above). You should bookmark this login page.
This legacy page can also be found by going to http://legacy.callfire.com/ and clicking on the Login button a the top right, but we don't recommend this because it is deceptive. The Login button changes to a different link as soon as you click it. If you then click on the Login button again, it will take you to a different login page, which uses different credentials. This is why we try to provide you with a direct link, because navigating their website can be confusing. If you have any more problems, call their helpdesk at 213-221-2289 and they can help you figure out where to log in to which site. I am very sorry for the confusion.

Re: CallFire Changed?
Jordan. Any plans to integrate with the new CALLFIRE interface? I ask because the new one allows you to send SMS from a long code (i.e. a phone number). If people reply to your text you get the response in your CallFire Inbox and an optional email notification. I am not sure but the Callfire people tell me you can also specify your own phone number and it shows up on the caller ID of the recipient. I think the legacy CALLFIRE implementation will be phased out eventually and also it would be wise to warn people not to reply to SMS received from a short code.

You can do two-way texting with GoogleVoice for free, or use a third party add-on like Total Recall Solutions.
There are a bunch of threads on this forum describing how.
