Text Messaging
Text Messaging
Still trying to find a viable texting solution for confirming appointments.
We are using the workaround of the cell number in email format (ie 3301111111j@vtext.com) in the email field.
This is definitely not ideal for many reasons.
I contacted Call Fire. Jacob in their sales department told me patients only have a 3 hour window to reply to a text. After that 3 hours they can't reply. Obviously, if this is the case, Call Fire is not a solution either.
Not really interested in paying several hundred a month on Demandforce or Lighthouse.
Any other programs people are using out there for texting confirmations?

Re: Text Messaging
I started using google voice. Works great for non bulk texting.
Re: Text Messaging
I hesitate to use google for anything patient related...privacy concerns.

Re: Text Messaging
We're using Sendhub. Works a lot like Google Voice. Not ideal since it requires front office staff to send messages manually, but it's very reliable.

TeleVox is another company I was looking at. Got pulled away to another project before I could investigate it thoroughly.

Re: Text Messaging
Would love to know as well. Right now we use lighthouse, it's expensive.
Re: Text Messaging
We are trying Call Fire right now. So far so good with sending out text messages.
Cost is $0.03 per text, so if the patients confirms back with a "C" it is $0.06 per patient appointment.
There is a program link with OD and Call Fire has been very helpful!

DataPilot Tether Hotspot Software ($25) http://www.datapilot.com/datapilot_page ... ontent.asp
DataPilot Hotspot is compatible with all Blackberry, Android, and Windows Mobile cell phones. Works with ALL Carriers.
This is a program that will be installed on your computer or laptop that allows you to use your phone internet to go online on your laptop or computer without the need of a hotspot..
When you buy the software, you will get 2 programs, Datapilot 7 and PdaNet (I have an Android cell phone)
Datapilot 7 will configure your computer to find the phone. DATAPILOT 7 is a great software to back up all of your cellphone data, images, sms, calendar, etc.......
PdaNet will allow your computer to use your phone internet to go online (tethering)
The advantage of PdaNet, once installed on your computer, it has also a feature to send SMS messages from your computer through your cellphone.
FREE SMS from your computer through your cell phone.
If someone can bridge Open Dental to PdaNet, this will be very helpful

Re: Text Messaging
PdaNet looks promising, however the new version disable sms agent widget since version 4.01. What's version have you test sms feature?
By the way, version 3.5 doesn't not installed on my Nexus 4. Maybe give it another try tonight.

Re: Text Messaging
Data pilot 7 came with PdaNet version 2.45 for Android, this version has SMS Agent functional
I am not sure if SUSTEEN, the company that distribute Data Pilot 7, has modified the PdaNet version 2.45,
because the activation key for PdaNet uses susteen info.

To download older versions of PdaNet follow this link:

You can also download PdaNet for Palm, for Blackberry, for iphone,

Re: Text Messaging
- How do you receive a reply back from the patient?
- Why would you want to pay for CallFire if Google Voice is free?
