e-claim linux, is it possible?

e-claim linux, is it possible?

Post by ugach » Tue Jan 13, 2009 9:37 am

Anybody doing e-claims on Linux machine? If yes, what do you use? I have creative front desk and computer illiterate dentist hence I have disabled Internet access on front desk machine hosting open-dent database. (running XP). I am running a Linux machine in the network that provides Internet connection to the office. It is also running open-dent on mono. BTW all these machines are behind firewall.

The Claim Connect functionality should still work fine on Linux.

I ended up with emdeon on windows XP machine to avoid any complications. (And finger pointing ;-) ) I have managed to open just the port for emdeon while still blocking web surfing and e-mail to outside world from that computer.

It is working fine. Now, how does one send a secondary insurance claim using open-dent/emdeon? Does emdeon do coordination of benefits? They should have data from the first claim.

You will wait for the primary claim to come back, edit your estimates, and then send a copy of the primary eob with the secondary claim. This means paper mail, or electronic attachments.

Thanks Dr. Sparks. With low volume in insurnace claims, I did not want to spend money on nea-fast. I guess it is paper claims then. Why can't insurance companies accept e-mails? Public key encrypted e-mails are supported by lot of e-mail applications these days. It would be easy to implement. I think I am asking too much. Insurance companies are in business of making money not paying.

BTW If the primary pays everything (except write-off for contracted insurance company for primary) how does one close the secondary claim without sending it? Is there a formal way in the software?

Yes, you enter a payment of zero and make a note.
