I am using OD and I am having this "big" problem with Patient Number Automation for creating a new patient. I click on Add Patient to create a new patient and OD assign a new Patient Number automatically. Then, I click cancel and I click Add Patient again. OD assign a NEW patient number ( +1) even though I didn't create a patient. I clicked Cancel. Isn't it suppose to use the same Patient Number because I clicked cancel instead of OK to create a new patient.
My clinic has been using patient number for chart number. therefore , this is a problem for my clinic. the patient number is suppose to reflect the correct number of patients. Can you fix this bug?
Thanks,
OD user.

Re: Patient Number automation bug
PatNums have never been guaranteed to be sequential, so it's not a bug. PatNum is a primary key, not a patient count. You can use a report to get a patient count at any time. It would help if I knew why it was important to you to not have skipped PatNums in your sequence other than for getting a patient count.

Re: Patient Number automation bug
Thanks for your response. We have been using an old software and the staff is used to looking at patient number and use it as chart number for that patient. so they freaked out due to patient number keep increasing even though they hit cancel when they started using OpenDental. so I just thought that the patient number is not supposed to increase if I click Cancel when adding a new patient.
Thanks,
