anyone deploying using group policy?

For complex topics that regular users would not be interested in. For power users and database administrators.

anyone deploying using group policy?

Post by gacole » Tue Jun 21, 2011 3:43 pm

Thinking about switching to Open Dental, and exploring all the options. Ease of administration is high on the list since it has to be installed on about 25 workstations for our office. I would like to push out updates and installs using group policy in Server 2008 R2. Since OD comes as an .exe and not an MSI, not sure if it is even possible. Anyone else managing an office this size without running around silly?

Thanks,
Greg

We also supply an msi. See the bottom of http://www.opendental.com/manual/update.html

That's great, I didn't see that before. So I've downloaded the trial version, and then the sequence would be to install that on my server, activate it, and then adjust it to use MSI for pushing out to the workstations? Once OD is on the workstations, then it looks like they would stay synchronized with the server any time an update would be applied at the server? Is that conceptually accurate?

Thanks,
Greg

Yes. Once installed on all workstations, you can either push your msi's, or you can take advantage of our built-in update recognition.
