Dentist A is setup as the default provider for the patient.
Dentist A did the exam and the treatment planned procedures are assigned to Dentist A.
Patient was then scheduled with Dentist B for treatment.
When the appointment was set complete not all of the procedures were changed to Dentist B. I verified that they are all attached to the appointment w/ Dentist B, but 2 procedures still list Dentist A.
When creating the claim it also automatically assigned Dentist A as the treating provider, when it should have been Dentist B.
It's possible that the procedures were attached after the appointment was set complete (I don't know for sure), but just as it automatically updates those newly attached procedures with the status of complete it should also change the provider.
I'm using version 6.2.12
Bug in treating provider assigned
Re: Bug in treating provider assigned
This came back to haunt me again today. Was running month-end reports and a writeoff showed up (by procedure date) for a provider that didn't work in January. It was because of this problem I had 2 weeks ago with the treating provider not getting updated properly when the appointment was set complete (it used the primary provider that treatment planned, not the provider on the scheduled appointment). When I manually correct the provider on the procedures I missed updating the claim line also, so one of the writeoffs was left assigned to the wrong provider.
I don't see my original post listed on the bug list. Still on v6.2.12 but hoping to upgrade to 6.3 this weekend. Do I need to try and recreate this bug in the current version?

I think I tried to recreate the bug after you first post and could not. Is there a sequence you are aware of that leaves it in this state? I should have made a post here after I tested, but now I can't remember exactly what I tried. I even remember reviewing the code and seeing that it does indeed change the provider. As with most bugs, recreating it is always the first step.

I think I've recreated the problem.
If you change your entry status to Complete and add items, it uses the primary provider instead of the scheduled provider. Then when you go to attach those procedures to the already completed appointment, it doesn't change the provider since the procedure is already set complete.
I know, they probably shouldn't be doing it that way, but since they can, can this be changed?
This kind of goes back to a previous request I made. When procedures are entered (whether it's treatment planned or completed) if there is an appointment scheduled that same day, have it use the scheduled provider rather than the primary provider. That way my treatment planned items would always show the person who actually did the treatment plan. That would solve both of these problems! Pretty please?

Re: Bug in treating provider assigned
That's very reasonable. I've added it to the bug list.
