When a patient changes insurance companies, the previous insurance company name is also changed to the new co's name in the account module. Therefore, there is no time line history of when the company changed. This is particularly important when a company does not pay either "on time" or "looses" the claim form, the patient then changes companies in the mean time, and the old-original insurance company needs to be rebilled. Without knowing which company was in force at that time, too much time and effort is wasted in contacting the patient (who often does not know the correct time line) and rebilling the correct company.
It is also confusing for patient billing purposes when we are a participating provider in one company (that was originally billed) and the patient then changes to a company that we are not participating with and the patient can be billed the difference.
Why can't the account module correctly display to which company the insurance form was sent, instead of changing the information to the "newer" listed company?
Insurance company changes
Re: Insurance company changes
Did you use the DROP and ADD feature or did you just type the new insurance carrier over the old one?
The easiest explanation is if you type a new name without dropping the old insurance, the program thinks you are correcting a spelling mistake and will change all previous history of that company. From the Edit Insurance window, drop the old insurance and add the new company and I believe you will see the difference.
