New install error

Post by brushandfloss » Thu Dec 24, 2009 3:54 am

There is probably a simple solution but I can't seem to figure it out:

I have an old version (4.2 - hey, it suits my minimal needs  ) that I compiled on my own. I am installing it on a new computer. I migrated the databases into the C drive and into the mysql folder. It's a Windows 7 x64 machine.

When I begin the program, the Choose Database window opens. MySQL status is Started. The error window is: "Database not present. Could not establish connection". I tried restarting MySQL (version 5.1), re-booting, changing other things, etc. - still the same error. I compared the file folders to another computer with functioning software and it appears that all the same files are present.

What could the problem be? Thank you for the help.

How did you install MySQL on that machine? If you did not use our installer, then the mysql permissions will not be correct. Are you getting this error on the the new "server"? Also see our backup page in the manual for general info about transferring databases. Normally, I would recommend getting the trial version working first on the new computer, but your version is too old.
