I am trying to do a setup here with
1 Dell Server
3 Work stations
1 laptop (mobile)
I am doing a pediatric dental practice. I have 5 questions below.
I was a computer programmer before dentistry and so I wanted to find how hard it is to install this program? I have done MySQL programming etc in the past with PHP programming, but no C#. . . Is this something I will be able to install by myself and get working or do I have to hire a professional IT team?
Is there a step by step on how to install this on the different clients and also the install for the Dell Server?
I have a couple computers but they are on different Windows version: Windows 7 and Windows Vista. . . Is this a problem? I know in the past, Windows networking was really hoaky. . .
Where is the MySql Server hosted? On the Server?
Does this talk to each other via ODBC drivers and connection to a local Intranet MySQL server?
How difficult is the integration into my CCD direct Soft-x nexis Pano machine and the Scan-x Optima system which will have its own work station to input the x-rays? How do I get it to go into the patient's chat?
Any insight as to how difficult this is would help. . .

Re: how difficult is the install?
As to the first question...If you are compiling it yourself see http://www.opendental.com/manual/programmers.html where it says "There is no included installation program with the source code (yet). You can run Open Dental on your development computer without an installation program. Play with the installer that comes with the trial version, and you will quickly see what elements you need to make it function properly. In fact you can use the trial version installer, and then just substitute your compiled version for the trial exe and dll's. The Open Dental exe is simple to distribute. Just copy it to another computer and put the required dlls in the same folder. Then click on it and it will run."
But you can call and ask for help installing the trial (971) 239 1150 at no cost. It is easy, you just install the trial on the server, and then when you install the trial on each client, just ONLY install the first of the six portions, and then point them to the server. We can talk you through it.

Does this talk to each other via ODBC drivers and connection to a local Intranet MySQL server? Just the local intranet mysql server, no odbc

It's very easy to install. Just use our trial version.
